Emma Kelly

The Emma Kelly room is found at the top of the grand staircase. It is dominated by soaring 12-foot ceilings, features a massive King-sized four poster bed, and includes a separate desk area. The non-working fireplace is an anchoring point in the room; its coal-burning firebox calls to mind the days of yesteryear. The renovated bathroom features an oversized walk-in shower with two opposing shower heads. There is also a free-standing claw foot soaking tub – the perfect place to relax with a glass of wine and our custom-blended soap and Lavender-Chamomile Body Scrub. Your room has two points of entry, one at the top of the main east stairs and another off the large second floor shared verandah.

Emma Kelly was made famous in John Berendt’s book, Midnight in the Garden of Good and Evil. A beloved singer and pianist, she was dubbed “The Lady of 6,000 Songs” by lyricist Johnny Mercer. Emma began playing the piano at age 4. In her early 20’s she begin to sing around town gratis for weddings and private parties. Finally, someone suggested that she start charging for her time; after all, she and her husband had ten children!
