Henry Dresser

The Henry B. Dresser room, named after the first owner of the West townhome, is the largest in the Inn. Its King-sized bed is tucked into a cozy alcove, leaving a large sitting room facing the decorative (non-working) fireplace. The three tall “waltz-out windows” invite you to enjoy your own private second floor balcony, which overlooks prestigious Gaston Street. The recently updated bathroom features a two-person walk-in shower. Your bath experience is even more delightful with our custom-blended soap and Lavender-Chamomile Body Scrub.

The Dresser Family History

The Dressers – Undressed by Elizabeth Johnston Dresser is a study of this old New England family from Southbridge, Massachusetts. It has given us the best glimpse yet into the man, Henry Bartlett Dresser. He was twice married. His first wife died within a year of the wedding. His second wife, Mary Isadore (Isa, as she was fondly called) Griggs, bore him five children, four sons and a daughter, four of whom were born in Savannah. Mr. Dresser’s father owned and operated the Central Mills Company in Massachusetts, where Henry began his working career as the superintendent. Henry later engaged in the business of buying and selling cotton in Savannah. Later in life, Henry and family returned to Southbridge for the remainder of his years.
