Lady Nancy Astor is famously known for describing Savannah in 1946 as “a pretty woman with a dirty face.” ,Born an American, she crossed the sea to Britain where she met her husband, Waldorf Astor, reputedly the wealthiest man in England. When he was elevated from the House of Commons to the House of Lords, Nancy decided to run for his seat. Women had just been given the vote in 1918. Lady Astor won the seat in 1919, serving until 1944. She was a remarkable woman who should be honored and remembered
